Founding

VALEO PR partners founded the company in Atlanta, in 2014 committed to ensuring clients thrive because they take the time to clearly articulate goals, build plans that empower success and connect with stakeholders in a way that drives desired outcomes and behavior change. Rochester became a core location for the company when Michael Mills moved "back home" in 2015.

We are embedded partners, rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands dirty to help plan and drive strategic outcomes for you. VALEO’s founders learned through experience that too few organizations plan strategically, and realize that effective communication requires solid insight and investment of time and effort. But VALEO leaders also realized that consultants too often sell jargon, process and bells and whistles, instead of being invested in their client needs, challenges and outcomes - and offer them tangible tools for success. VALEO is Latin for "thrive," and we invest ourselves completely to ensure clients do just that!

Founder

Michael P. Mills brings perspective, a deep rolodex and "I've seen it all" experience to his role as founder and president of VALEO PR. His career is built upon 20-plus years of experience growing and protecting brands in the corporate, PR agency, nonprofit, trade association and political sectors. His diverse background and experience moving the brand needle provides unique insight into client organizational, reputation and communication needs; driving successful public policy; and building critical stakeholder relationships that enable desired outcomes. He is particularly adept at helping clients find white space that creates new revenue, programmatic or other impactful opportunities. 


Michael also has extensive crisis communications and proactive brand-building experience, epitomized by serving as a media spokesperson, communications strategist, philanthropy agent, and public affairs ambassador for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc


Mills’ previous roles and experience include:

  • *Executive Director, Public Affairs and Sustainability, Golin Atlanta (Agency)
  • President, Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (NGO)
  • Deep reservoir of healthcare, water, education, animal welfare and climate change issues management experience honed at various public relations firms (Agency)
  • Founder, Vote for America Georgia/Coalition for a Voting America (NGO)
  • Candidate, Secretary of State (2010); Legislative aide, Secretary of State Lewis Massey; and campaign press secretary, Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor (Georgia Politics)
  • Authored the 2009 book, “Battling Democracy’s Decline”


Michael’s education background includes: Bachelor’s degree, Hobart College; Master’s degree (Political Communications), Georgia State University; and Advanced Management Certificate, University of California, Haas School of Business


Michael and VALEO's commitment to the community is strong, which is why he currently serves on the Pittsford Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, chairs the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce Public Affairs Committee, and is a member of the Town of Canandaigua Economic Development Committee. He previously chaired the board of YES!Atlanta for almost a decade, and served on the boards of League of Women Voters of Georgia, American Cancer Society Corporate Executive Leadership Council, Communities in Schools of Georgia and Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition. 


Michael has been recognized as a YES!Atlanta Luminary, Delta Chi International Fraternity’s “Distinguished Delta Chi,” Georgia State Communications Department, Outstanding Alumni and Georgia Trend Magazine, “40 Under 40.” He was a member of Outstanding Atlanta and Leadership Buckhead. And his work earned the IABC Golden Flame Public Affairs Campaign and PRSA Silver Anvil Grassroots Campaign.
